So it's been quite some time and I apologize for the delay in getting an update out to you all! Let me start by saying Skip is doing outstanding! He's been encouraged, optimistic and patient. He's done much better emotionally than I would have expected.
Skip as we all know him, has always been a positive person, but he's also been a bit ancy! He's always got to be doing something and with the impact of a Stroke, I was unsure how he would deal with the lack of mobility and inability to be out and about. I haven't seen a bit of depression or frustration or discouragement about his situation. This is extremely good because one of the common things that occurs with recovering stroke patients, is "major depression".
Onto a different topic, let's talk about his physical improvements. He's no longer on a feeding tube and his cathater is gone! Yea!!!
His speech is very good and he's able to have a very good conversation! He's a bit mumbly at times but this usually occurs when he's trying to get too much out or if the speech is fairly complex. He's still in the wheelchair, which is of no suprise but almost 3 weeks ago he started to move his right leg and foot. Now he's fully able to move his right leg on command and the feeling there keeps getting better. As for his right arm, he's just recently beginning to get the feeling back, but there's not any movement yet. His overall body movement and improvements have been gradual but continuous, which is all that we can hope for. THe Doctors do believe that he will continue to improve and eventually walk again! So the road may be long but it's steady and good!
So, I would like to thank all of you for your time in checking up on Skip and into the site. I apologize it has been so long since you've got an update!
My mom and he are doing very well and cards and pictures are always welcome to their home...at:
